Yellow avalanche-lily, also called glacier lily or sometimes trout lily, is commonly found at the edge of receding snow fields in large groups, carpeting the mountainside in bright, lemony-yellow. It can be found in the Snowies west of Laramie at high altitudes, usually in late June and July. When my wife and I first moved to Laramie, we dropped our belongings in our duplex and set out on a backpacking trip the next day because we were so excited for summer! I remember that day very well as large meadows of avalanche-lily welcomed us to our new home.
