From the artist:
Pasqueflowers, also called prairie crocus, are one of the earliest-blooming wildflowers in southeast Wyoming (Pasque refers to Easter, which is near their bloom time), showing up in sunny to partially shaded areas in late April and early May. When the snow melts enough to go trail running in Vedauwoo and the Happy Jack area east of Laramie, they remind me that spring is finally here! After they are done blooming, they produce very distinctive, feathery, spherical seed heads
